Mr. Douglas Chambers served with the Royal Air Force in Iraq during WWII. He met Dooley Redmond on a mission to retrieve a downed British war plane in Gorey, County Wexford, Ireland. He proposed to her within a few days of their meeting and they were married shortly after in 1944. They emigrated from Britain to Canada where Doug served in the Canadian Royal Air Force from 1947 to 1951 and then immigrated to the U.S. in 1955. They were married for 63 years at the time of her death in 2007.
Doug enjoyed golf and scored a hole in one at the age of 75. He was a self published author; writing about his experiences as an immigrant, a book of poems dedicated to his wife and a philosophical treatise on God and religion. He also loved to play poker and rarely lost during friendly games with his friends and neighbors. He was a deep thinker and a true philosopher and enjoyed long discussions on a variety of subjects including religion, politics and current events.
He leaves a son, a daughter and grandchildren.Doug and Dooley were predeceased by their sons James Douglas Chambers, Shaunn David Chambers, Robert Michael Chambers and daughter Margaret "Red" Chambers.
